Those Long and Winding Hills…
I was reading the latest issue of Runner’s World last night and there was this whole section on ‘advice from olympian runners’. One person had mentioned that they like to do their interval training on the treadmill with an incline. That way they get the cardio workout, but it’s easier on their legs. That got me thinking about the second leg of my Ragnar set, which has a long evil hill in the middle of a not short distance. I’ve been fretting about the best way to get ready for that. I know I have some reasonably long slow hills around, but I think the treadmill might be the answer to my pace-on-the-hill concerns. Just a thought when trying to get ready for the specific challenges this race will bring. =)

Ok, so I did the hills treadmill thing last night and it went pretty well. Now I just have to figure out what grade I need to shoot for.
I have been utilizing the treadmill for both my sprint workouts as well as hills. I do not have hills near my house, so I crank up the inlcine on the treadmill and away I go. I am able to control how fast I go as well. I have found using the treadmill in the heat has been very helpful in my marathon training. I am running the USAF Marathon in dayton, OH on Sept 20th. Lately, I have been doing mile repeats on the treadmill. I do not have osmeone to do sprints with, so the treadmill allows me to crank up the speed to what i want and get a good workout! I say use the equipment that you have available to you and what works best for you.

I’m working on a little page to collect SWAT (ragnar team) stuff and talk about the training.
